October 2009

22nd October

Fiona Cameron has asked me to make a correction regarding the latest issue of Old Time News: The review of "I'll Never Forsake You" by Kellie Allen and Pete Peterson should have been attributed to Bob Ward (and not me! Nick).

Re Ira Bernstein & Riley Baugus at Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells on Sunday 22 November 2009 If you are interested in an informal music/dance session starting about 4.00pm (or possibly earlier), prior to the Ira Bernstein/Riley Baugus concert, at the Beacon Hotel (www.the-beacon.co.uk) (5 minutes walk from the concert venue) please let me know, and if there is sufficient support I will confirm with the Hotel (John Cullen) and those interested. No food at the Beacon on Sunday evenings unfortunately, but there are a couple of take-aways in Rusthall opposite the concert venue. However the Beacon does excellent Sunday lunches. It's a lovely venue (lunch, walk, session, concert - nice day).

As previously mentioned, last Saturday on BBC Radio 3, World Routes was the first part of a two part programme on music of Appalachia. They were mostly at Mt Airy Fiddlers Convention. If, like me, you forgot, you can listen again at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00n6ykp

This coming Saturday the programme visits some of the "old players", including Benton Flippen (I believe) so it should be good. It is at 3pm but I hope that for something like that both episodes will be available on 'listen again' for a while.
