Damien O' Kane had his tenor banjo stolen recently in Newcastle. Jon is one of the great bluegrass (and beyond) fiddlers of the 70s/80s generation; he has no website, but you can get an idea about his genius by searching on ‘Jon Glik’. Rick Townend is intending to put on a UK benefit concert, at St Julians in Sevenoaks, Kent (unless anyone has any good ideas for a larger – but still cheap – venue) in late October / early November. Trading as Barrios Musical Instruments makes and sells stringed instruments - guitars, mandolins, violins etc. He can be found at the Cornhall, Cirencester on the second and fourth Saturdays in the month and occasional festivals. Commisions, repairs and restorations also undertaken. www.barriosmusicalinstruments.com *************************************** In the 1960s, Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger recorded a ten-album set of ballads called THE LONG HARVEST. Each LP had three or four Child Ballads, each one represented by four or five versions, starting with older texts and moving up to newer ones. The purpose was to show how the ballads travelled from the Europe to the USA and what became of them in the process. Many of the newer texts are truncated, humorous or reduced to childrens' songs. This set of recordings has been out of print for 30 years but it is now available on CD. The set consists of Volumes 1-10 of the ballads and an eleventh CD of the original notes in PDF form. The sets cannot be broken up and sold as individual CDs. The full set costs $110 (p&p incl) in the USA but are not directly available elsewhere at the present moment so it would be a case of sending money orders in $USD to the amount of $125 (p&p incl).
If anyone wants to buy a set please email me for the address to send payment to. *************************************** Dance Around The World Saturday 13th October 2007 Cecil Sharp House, London Kerry Fletcher's clogging students from Faversham, Pirton, Reilly's & Junction 9 are going to be performing in the afternoon… then Kerry is doing an hour long workshop and a spot with David Carr in the evening dance. The Retreat Pub is a quiet backstreet pub (Bernie and Jane who run it call it Reading's best kept secret) who specialise in real ales and are great patrons of local live music. The nearby Ukrainian Club can be used for safe and free parking but first obtain a ticket at The Retreat. Against previous advise please avoid using the commercial parking lot adjacent to The Eldon Pub in Eldon Terrace for clamping is in force. |
