Piney Woods and the “Walk Chalk Chicken” Tour

Kate Lissauer will be touring with Piney Woods in February 2008.

Champion fiddler, and a mainstay of England’s Old-Time Country Music scene, Kate Lissauer, is on the road with the wizards behind her acclaimed recording project “Walk Chalk Chicken”-- WestVirginia’s Dave and Time Bing, and Jim Martin.  Together they produce one of the most spirited and authentic sounds of American roots music that you’ll hear anywhere.  Dave and Time Bing, legends in their home state, and hugely influential bearers of the great fiddle and banjo traditions of rural Appalachia, must be heard live to be appreciated as one of the great sibling instrumental duets of all time.  With Kate’s multi-instrumental and vocal flair and Jim Martin’s superlative bass playing and singing, the quartet create an American string band experience that is a must for your musical calendar.

Banjo and Fiddle week in Spain with Dave Bing and Kate Lissauer

The second Spain Music Week is announced at last!  Saturday to Saturday, May 3-10, 2008.  This is a holiday for fiddle and banjo players and anyone, playing another instrument or not, who wants to be around fiddles and banjos for a week of shared adventure, musical and otherwise.

Home for the week is Nueva Luna, a lovingly restored farmhouse set in the stunningly beautiful, fragrant and remote highlands of Andalucia, near Almeria. Tutors Dave Bing and Kate Lissauer will each offer classes on both instruments.  Workshops will focus on traditional fiddle and banjo style, technique and repertoire, as well as on encouraging all participants to play together formally and informally.  Some individual assistance for beginners and for those wanting to learn other instruments will be available.  Out-of-class time is spent on hiking, swimming, climbing, photography, eating, partying, jamming, daytrips to the beach or mountaintop, or to places of cultural or historic interest, and night trips to the taverna.

The price for the week is £475, which includes room and full board of delicious home-cooked vegetarian and omnivorous fare, tuition, and use of all facilities.  Travel is not included, but we will assist with organising transport to and from Almeria airport.

Places are strictly limited, so we encourage early booking.

Contact Kate Lissauer for any further information you require, or to book.  5 Christchurch Street West, Frome, Somerset BA11 1EH or phone 01373 474 110.
