Friday, November 16 - Tribute to Charlie Poole & the North Carolina Ramblers (for the Brandywine Friends of Old-Time Music). Mind reading is an optional extra. *************************************** SWEET SUNNY SOUTH PRESS RELEASE The sixth annual Sweet Sunny South Festival takes place at the Fairlight Lodge Hotel over the weekend Sept.7th-9th. The festival, known throughout the country as one of the premiere festivals of American old time music this year features the return of Kate Lissauer, together with her six piece band of singers, dancers and musicians, The Buffalo Gals. In support at the two concerts are Nick Peachey, multi-instrumentalist and singer who plays guitar, banjo and a host of other instruments and whose highly original approach to American music is sure to provide great entertainment. Also appearing for the first time in Hastings, The Foundlings, a trio from South Wales who play fiddle, guitar and mandolin. As the venue is usually fully booked, early booking is advised to avoid disappointment. The concerts are only part of the festival weekend, which also includes a variety of workshops and informal picking sessions all within the laid back and friendly atmosphere that has been a highlight of previous events. *************************************** Six Hands In Tempo - a legend in their own lunchtime for almost 20 years and featuring our very own Dave Proctor with Steve Bailey and Al Harris- are making a rare reunited performance at the Carrington Triangle Folk club on Wed 29 August at 8.30pm The venue is The Gladstone, Loscoe Road, Carrington, Nottingham, NG5 2AW They play songs from the 20's and 30's, folk songs and tunes and (I quote) such immortal creations as the Western Medley and Songs From Science Fiction TV Programmes. I must get my old LP out of the attic and listen to it again! *************************************** The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is happy to announce that it will be running more workshops this autumn. Come and learn to play, or stretch your playing with members of The UOGB. These will be the same basic format that we ran in the spring, with the addition of some new material. Each workshop will cost £35, and numbers are limited to 20 per session. Two workshops will run each day at 10am - 1pm and 2.30pm - 5.30pm. Workshops are available for booking now. Autumn workshops will be held at: Cecil Sharp House, 2 Regents Park Road, London NW1 7AY (Camden Town tube) Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd September. Beginners Workshops 3 hours long (10-1pm), and cost £35 each The morning workshops on each day will be for absolute beginners, and offer basic ukulele mechanics: how to hold the instrument and tune it. They will also deal with basic strumming technique, reading chord shapes, and focus on getting the participants playing. Participants will go away able to play at least a couple of songs.
